A free iPhone app has been launched featuring all the information people need to enjoy the Olympic cycling events in Surrey this summer.
The app acts as a digital spectator guide showing the routes of the Olympic road race and time trial events, as well as the locations of ‘live sites’ where there will be big screens showing the races, stalls and other activities.
The app also supports local businesses by telling people about places to eat and drink and visitor attractions. Other information ranges from the locations of train stations and where to find a toilet.
Helyn Clack, Surrey County Council’s Cabinet Member for Community Services and the 2012 Games, said: “Hundreds of thousands of people are expected to watch the Olympic cycling events in Surrey. This app will help them enjoy themselves, direct visitors to local businesses and provide important information about getting around.
“I’d urge local people as well as visitors to download it for free. Inevitably staging sporting events of this scale will cause disruption, so the more information people have at their fingertips about what is going on the better.”
The men’s and women’s Olympic cycling road races will take place on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 July. The time trials will be staged on Wednesday 1 August.
